about us

We are on a mission to advance the state of the field of molecular and materials modeling through open source software.

As members of a collaborative community of scientists and engineers, we work alongside other organizations aligned in this mission to develop open source solutions that are free for anyone to use and extend for their problems of interest.

We also provide high-value, paid services to organizations that want help applying these solutions, and we use these engagements to fuel further advancement of these solutions for all.

why do we do it?

We love what we do. We are scientists by background, engineers by mindset, and believers in the power of open source. We love waking up each morning to work on problems that we believe are worth solving.

how do we do it best?

We believe our approach and perspective are unique in the market we serve, and that this can be leveraged to benefit those we work with directly while simultaneously advancing the broader field.

who we are

David L. Dotson, Ph.D.

David is a systems and software engineer with a background in computational physics. He performed his Ph.D. work in Physics in Oliver Beckstein’s computational biophysics laboratory at Arizona State University, and since then has worked in both small startups and large corporate environments. His experience operating within a variety of organizations has granted him hard-won perspective and patience.

David founded datryllic in 2017, and since 2020 has been working full-time as a consultant helping clients to navigate the open source landscape and build custom solutions for their unique needs.

David leverages his mix of design intuition, engineering sense, and emotional intelligence to meet clients where they are, identify where they want to be, and get them there.
